AIA is seriously considering the status of the AIA Conference on Architecture 2020, scheduled for May 14–16 in Los Angeles. In this rapidly worsening situation, we will update everyone on cancellation or postponement as soon as possible.
March 11, 2020
As of now, the AIA Conference on Architecture 2020, A’20, May 14–16 in Los Angeles, will take place as scheduled. We have extended our registration cancellation policy to one week prior to the conference (May 6, 2020) and we have extended our early bird deadline to April 15, 2020.
In the coming weeks, as public health officials, elected leaders, and communities work to contain the spread of the virus, AIA will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) risk assessment and mitigation protocols as needed to respond to this changing situation. As the situation warrants, AIA will provide status updates on upcoming events on both the website and through emails.
Situation monitoring
AIA is in regular contact with key conference stakeholders, including the Los Angeles County Convention Center, as well as monitoring information from public health agencies, as mentioned above. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is complying with the travel restrictions signed by the U.S. Government on January 31, 2020, prohibiting entry to the United States of most foreign nationals who traveled to China within the 14 days immediately prior to arrival in the United States.
AIA is also in regular contact with our conference hotels to amplify protocols and disinfection procedures, which follow the recommendations of the CDC and WHO.
A few tips from the CDC when gathering at any event or public place:
- Minimize physical contact, avoid shaking hands. AIA strongly encourages a handshake free environment at A’20.
- Wash hands thoroughly and often, with soap and water.
- When soap and water are not available, use an alcohol–based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Keep your hands away from your face, eyes, and mouth.
- Stay home if you are sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms
We will continue to monitor the situation. If anything regarding A’20 should change, we will post it here and notify all A’20 registrants and exhibitors.
